League of Women Voters of the Barrington Area

In 2010, the U.S. Census Bureau will issue a call to action for every resident of our nation to be counted. The census affects political representation and directs the allocation of billions of dollars in government funding annually for critical community services. A morning and evening meeting are scheduled to reach as many residents as possible. Each meeting will be designed to cover the basics of the census such as history, why the census matters, use of technology, and privacy issues and allow for questions and answers. Census questionnaires will be mailed in March 2010, so the timing of these meetings is to encourage all residents in the Barrington area to "Stand Up and Be Counted."

Join members of the League of Women Voters and American Association of University Women Barrington Branch as we celebrate Women's History Month. Mother Jones was a spectacular, controversial woman in an occupation -and a time - filled with danger. Beginning in the 1870s and continuing for over fifty years, Mother Jones went to coal mines, train yards, factories and logging camps to meet with workers and help them fight against the unspeakable crime of child labor. She became a labor leader and was inspired to march the mill children 125 miles from Kensington, Pennsylvania to President Roosevelt's home at Oyster Bay in Long Island.
